Daily Tip: Offer Automatic Updates for Plugins and Themes Hosted Outside WordPress Extend

Have you written a plugin or theme that you’d like to offer automatic updates for? Maybe you prefer to host your theme or plugin on your own server, as opposed to offering it within the WordPress repository. You can actually offer automatic updates to users in the same way that they are accustomed to receiving them.
Kaspars Dambis of konstruktors.com has built themes and plugins that are used by thousands of people around the world. He kindly posted a couple of sample scripts along with an API to provide automatic updates for plugins and themes you host on your own server. Check out his blog for more information on implementing the scripts and start hosting your own projects without all the red tape.
Because this plugin/widget is provided free of charge, I simply ask you to link back to Pressography.com in a post on your blog, or from one of your sites. It doesn't need to be anything fancy - just a note saying that you're using it, and whether or not you like it. However, there is no requirement that you do this, you're free to use the plugin regardless.
