Daily Tip: Helpful Note on Making Edits to wp-config.php

One question that often pops up on WordPress and BuddyPress fourms is regarding wp-config.php edits. You may read something in a tutorial or configuration instructions that requires you to add a line above the /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ line. For example, when enabling Multisite, you’re required to add this to your wp-config.php file:

define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);

One support issue I often see is that the edits have been made, but WordPress is not recognizing them. Many times there is a simple reason behind this. Oftentimes people will copy and paste the define from a blog or website into the wp-config.php file, but when it pastes in, it has curly quotes. The quotes should be straight single ticks, not curly. The best way to avoid this is to simply type it in manually, instead of relying on copy and paste. If you have edits that don’t seem to take, then try this simple fix.
