Daily Tip: Are You Ready for WordPress 3.2 PHP and MySQL Requirements?

WordPress announced that it is ending support for PHP 4 and MySQL 4. WordPress 3.1, which is coming soon, will be the last major release to support PHP and MySQL 4. WordPress 3.2, slated for May 2011, will be the first release to require PHP 5.2 or higher and MySQL 5.0.15 or higher.
How does this affect you?
You’ll need to check to make sure your hosting provider is up to date. You may be able to enable PHP 5 via the hosting provider’s control panel or perhaps they can move you to a new server. Worst case scenario is that you would need to change hosts.
If you’re not sure what versions PHP and MySQL your host is running, you can install the Health Check plugin and it will tell you if you’re ready for WordPress 3.2. It’s a good idea to plan ahead so that when the time comes, you’ll be able to upgrade smoothly.
Because this plugin/widget is provided free of charge, I simply ask you to link back to Pressography.com in a post on your blog, or from one of your sites. It doesn't need to be anything fancy - just a note saying that you're using it, and whether or not you like it. However, there is no requirement that you do this, you're free to use the plugin regardless.
