BuddyPress Digest: Everything You Missed Over the Weekend

BuddyPress developer Rich Fuller has been busy this past week updating plugins for BP 1.2.4 and creating new functionality that many users will be excited about. Over the weekend, I tested the new updates for the very useful BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation. As an administrator, this tool gives you the ability to finely tune your site’s community and purposes by limiting the scope of user-generated groups.

Exciting Updates to BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation Plugin

Administrators may now restrict group creation by first qualifying their members through WP roles and capabilities checks and/or various member thresholds, including forum posts, friends, status updates, and days since registered.

Restrictions based on threshholds:

New Plugin: BuddyPress Member Profile Stats

Rich also turned out a new plugin this weekend: BuddyPress Member Profile Stats, which displays a simple statistical meta section underneath the profile, including information such as: Member Since, Status Count, Forum Topic Count, Forum Post Count, and Blog Comment Count. Encourage a little bit of friendly competition between your users by publicizing a summary of how much they have been active on your site. It adds some context for the discussions and activity on your site when members are able to distinguish veteran users from those who are newly registered.
